I created this painting as Western Washington was shifting from fall to winter. The flowers were long dead, the trees almost fully bare. This painting was my protest against winter. The first step in my creative process is to find a reference image. I knew my protest painting had to be a vibrant floral piece, but I didn't yet have the reference image. As I was scrolling through my camera role in search of the perfect image, I stumbled across a photo from 2018, of a booth at the Olympia Farmers Market exploding with zinnias. I instantly knew this was the perfect image for my protest.
